A quick guide on how to nail down all your goals in life and succeed.
A big reason why most people don't achieve their goals is because the very first step they choose is often too big.
Let's understand with a few examples:
Let's say you have spent the past 10 years of your life eating unhealthy food and are obese and have never exercised. And now, you want to go to the gym 1 hour a day and become fitter and healthier. The gym is a 15-minute drive from your house.
You will surely go to the gym for 1 or 2 days. But chances are high that after that, you'd lose motivation and not be able to continue.
Why so?
1 hour of gymming + 30 minutes of round trip commute + 15 minutes to wear shoes and gym clothes = 1 hour and 45 minutes worth of change in your daily schedule. That's a massive change in your daily life and is likely to be unsustainable.
Here is an alternative solution: pick 3 simple exercises and start doing them for 15 minutes a day at your home itself.
This solution is highly likely to work because of multiple benefits:
1. Takes a lot less time in total so less impact on the schedule.
2. Doesn't require an expensive gym membership.
3. You don't have to wear any special gym clothes or shoes.
4. No commute required.
Much easier to sustain this. Gradually you can increase the duration to 30 minutes, then 45 minutes and then once you've built the required consistency, you can start going to the gym.
Of course, even in this simpler method, there would be drop-offs. But for sure, the chances of success in this method are higher.
This applies to almost every big thing you want to do in life. Start with something small to ensure that there is less friction in doing it. Build consistency. Then gradually increase the intensity. Build consistency on the increased intensity. Repeat.
Remember - consistency is more important than the initial intensity.
