Entrepreneurship is overrated. A stable job is underrated

Today, every 20-something-year-old wants to become an entrepreneur. They talk negatively about a 9 - 5 job on Social Media. I see so many YouTube videos where someone became rich overnight and is now vacationing in Miami and buying expensive cars. Social Media has glamorised entrepreneurship so much that everyone wants to become an entrepreneur.

Here is what the Social Media shows:

• The guy is making millions and bought a brand-new Lamborghini at the age of 21.
• He's posting on Social Media and amassing millions of followers.
• He is chilling out in Miami for a month-long vacation.
• He's invited as a Chief Guest at events and conferences.

For most entrepreneurs, the reality is far from this. Being an entrepreneur is really really difficult.

• There are days when you almost go bankrupt.
• There are days when you make 0 revenue and quarters where you have negative cash flows.
• You won't be able to spare time for your friends and family. Your personal life would generally be non-existent.
• Till you achieve any meaningful success, society will call you an idiot.
• Your competition will take away your customers.
• You will likely go through a co-founder exit and would want to quit.

There is extreme uncertainty in being an entrepreneur. Not everyone is made to handle all of this. A stable 9 to 5 job is the best solution for a lot of people. Don't get swayed away by Social Media and try to force-fit yourself into becoming an entrepreneur. If you enjoy the work you're doing and get paid reasonably well, it may not be worth it for you to unnecessarily get into entrepreneurship. Adjusting for failure probabilities, you're likely to make more money from your job than by being an entrepreneur.

While I promote Entrepreneurship, let's not underestimate the importance of a job that pays a stable monthly income.
