How to hire for a new role as a Founder?
1.) Do that work yourself to understand the role.
2.) Hire a beginner who can take the routine/repetitive work of that role off your head.
3.) Now in this situation, you're taking the decisions (thinking role) for that work and your team member who you hired, is executing.
4.) Now evaluate if this team member of yours can grow enough to start taking the thinking work off your head too.
5.) If they are able to gradually do that, then you may want to build the team for this role in a bottoms-up manner. Focus on coaching them further so that they can eventually build and lead a team for this specific work.
6.) If they are unable to do that, then go ahead and build the team for this role in a top-down manner by hiring an expert who has been there, done that. Obviously this is a more expensive method, but many times, it's faster.
Most people skip step 1 and that's where they're not capable of evaluating someone in step 6. As a founder, you cannot afford to not know stuff yourself. You have to do it yourself and then coach or hire someone.
